Applications Open: 2013 UDL Two-Day Camp (Aug 26-27)

June 28, 2013

The New Haven Urban Debate League (UDL), the debate league for NHPHS students run by Yale students, will be holding a two-day intensive debate summer camp this year on August 26 and 27.  The camp will take place in Dwight Hall on Yale’s campus and will be run by a group of UDL coaches.  At the camp, NHPHS students of all debating backgrounds will improve their public speaking and argumentation skills through fun and challenging debate exercises.  The students will work closely with coaches and fellow camp participants to learn about current events and national debates, arguing a range of topics such as gun laws, abortion, junk food in schools, and whether Barbie dolls are better than action figures.

Please spread the word about the camp to your students, and please forward this message to colleagues so that they can pass along the information to their students.  You can find more information about UDL at our website, newhavenudl.wordpress.com, and students can find the application for the camp at tinyurl.com/udl-summer-2013.  The application deadline is July 25, but students will be admitted on a rolling basis, so please encourage your students to apply early.

The camp will be a great opportunity for students to gain confidence and proficiency in developing and communicating eloquent arguments.  It will also provide a chance for them to interact with Yale students and other motivated NHPHS students and to have a lot of fun.
