Third Fall 2013 Tournament (Last one this semester) - December 6th Friday

The third and last tournament of the semester is happening this Friday.

  • Date: December 6th, 2013 (Friday)
  • Time: 2:30 pm to 7:00 pm
  • Place: Linsly-Chittenden Hall (LC), 63 High Street - Please note the location change from the usual William Harkness Hall. Here is a map.
  • As usual, experienced debaters and your coaches from Yale will be judging and offering feedback. Dinner will be provided. Top teams and speakers will receive gift cards from local restaurants as prizes. There is a separate category for novice debaters.
  • All levels of debating experience welcome.
  • Sign up with the head coach(es) at your school. Please sign up in teams and indicate varsity or novice level.
  • If you have questions about the tournament or would like to judge, just ask the coach at your school.

Motions:

  1. Round 1: This House Would give votes to the poor.
  2. Round 2: [Info slide: There has been a rise in cosmetic Anglicisation procedures in India and parts of Asia. These are procedres intended to make somebody look more “white” (such as surgical procedures to lighten one’s skin or make one’s eyes look larger).]
    This House Would ban cosmetic Anglicisation procedures.
  3. Round 3: This House believes that the Indian government should subsidize inter-caste marriages.
