UDL Takes California

March 26, 2018

Five UDL teams competed at the Santa Clara University Philalethic Invitational national tournament in California from March 22-26.

Congratulations to Owen Heaphy and Alim Rodican for making it to double-octafinals (top 32 teams) at the tournament. In addition, Salaar Rabbani, Prastik Mohanraj, Akshar Agarwal, and Owen Heaphy advanced to semi-finals of impromptu speaking, all of whom were novices.

Every student won at least 40% of their total debate rounds. Prastik Mohanraj was ranked as 2nd seed in Impromptu out of 82 students! We are incredibly pleased with New Haven UDL’s results at our first national tournament, and these kids received due recognition for all of the hard work they put in.

Students spent their free time trying out boba tea, visiting the Tech Museum of Innnovation in San Jose, and walking around Chinatown.

Congratulations to the students who broke in Impromptu Speaking.
